The recently opened Loft at Dubai Opera (replacing the short-lived Sean Connelly) is quickly becoming the talk of the town with its brand new “Lofty Caviar Brunch”.
Visiting in only their second week I was super excited as had heard rave reviews from those who’d managed to make the launch brunch. It certainly looked like my kind of thing, so me and a girlfriend got dressed up and ready for a day on the tiles.
Set on the top floor of the Opera, the restaurant is large and bright with a bar the focal point of the venue. It’s chic and elegant and to top it off has a beautiful terrace with stunning views of the Burj Khalifa.
The brunch’s main feature without a doubt is its caviar station, the fresh oysters and the free-flowing Veuve Clicquot, all of which preggo over here couldn’t indulge in, however my friend seemed to be in her element. As a result I feel it’s only fair to plan a second visit one bubba is out.
As well as family style dishes served at your table there is a live pasta station, with freshly made risotto mixed with a selection of mushrooms, tossed in a parmesan wheel (because Dubai loves a parmesan wheel) and topped with freshly shaved truffles. Do not miss this!
In addition there is a BBQ serving up freshly grilled king prawns and steak. Both of which were utterly delicious.
The rest of the dishes are all served at your table. Of the starters the most noteworthy had to include a divine truffle pizza and a beautiful ricotta and honey dish served with fresh bread.
Moving onto the mains and the pan -fried sea bass with mint and courgette was light and fresh and we loved the gnocchi although the serving was a bit small. The braised lamb shoulder was nice but felt a little heavy compared with the other dishes despite being beautifully cooked.
For desserts a huge sharing platter was delivered with a selection of fruits filled with sorbet or ice cream flavoured with that particular fruit which was really unique. A coffee parfait, crème brulee and lemon cheesecake completed the offering and finished us off for the day. Although if you still have room after all that there is a cheese and bread section available at the bar. It wasn’t huge but perfect if you just want a little nibble.
In terms of drinks apart from the aforementioned champagne they had a great selection of cocktails including Aperol Spritz, Pink Gordon’s Gin Fizz and Espresso Martinis. I was good with watermelon juice… ok, I was insanely jealous but such is life!
The crowd and the vibe is elegant and relaxed, it’s not wild but the DJ played some great tunes to keep the mood upbeat and it certainly felt like a lovely classy affair. Priced at 495 AED for soft drinks and 695 AED for for champagne, signature cocktails and premium beverages it’s on the pricier end of the scale but totally worth it for a beautiful indulgent Friday.
The staff were fantastic throughout and couldn’t do enough for us and I cannot wait to go back and treat myself to everything I’ve not been able to eat for the past 8 months!
