For The Bookworms: My 5 Latest Reads

I’m a little bit of a bookworm and love curling up in bed with a cup of tea and a new read. I’m always on the lookout for good recommendations and have read a few fab books recently which is why I thought I’d do a quick post on my five recent reads for you guys.

I am Pilgrim – Terry Hayes

Quite possibly one of the best books I have read in years! It’s a big’un but trust me you will not want it to end. It’s a dark thriller, packed full of plot twists and some very gory, graphic descriptions with well-developed protagonists. I don’t even know where to start with the story so just pick up a copy and get reading.

Friend Request – Laura Marshall

A bit of a trashy thriller along the same lines as The Woman in Cabin 10, etc., but it kept me turning the pages just to see how it all came together. The plot’s a bit thin and the main character a little annoying but still fun if you don’t fancy anything too deep or taxing.

My Husbands Wife – Jane Corry

I really enjoyed this book and am so glad I didn’t judge it by its cover which is so easily done. It’s intriguing and keeps you guessing throughout with some really interesting takes on love, life, marriage and morality. I enjoyed the characters and thought the author did a great job at developing them throughout. Definitely worth a read!

The Wonder – Emma Donoghue

I really enjoyed “The Room” and as a result had high expectations for this book but I honestly almost gave up halfway through I found it so dull as well as a bit ridiculous. Focusing on a young girl in Ireland who has supposedly survived for months without food or water it sounded interesting but ended up being a complete borefest. Steer clear.

The MaddAddam Trilogy: Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood and MaddAddam – Margaret Atwood

If you enjoyed The Handmaid’s Tale then give this trilogy a whirl. I love anything Margaret Atwood and these may be my favourites from her. Set in a post-apocalyptic near future, Atwood transports you to a world that is so hard to imagine yet all too familiar. The plot is genius and exciting, the characters are fascinating and it really is seriously hard to put these books down. They’re quite long and so are a bit of an investment in time but you won’t regret it if you enjoy this genre. Word on the street is that Paramount TV are also working on a series adaptation which I am VERY excited about.

I’d love to hear what you’ve all been reading recently and any recommendations you may have so do please comment below!
