Privilee: The Complete Low Down

I’ve been a member of Privilee for almost 6 months now and often get asked a lot questions about it so thought a quick blog post explaining how it works would be useful to my UAE based buddies.

So, what is Privilee? It’s a membership that gives you access to the UAE’s best beach clubs and luxury resorts where you can use their pools, private beaches, racquet courts and gyms. You also get substantial discounts at many of the hotels spa and dining outlets.

Why I love it? It beats buying daily beach club passes, which can range anywhere from 150-350 AED a pop, or joining a hotel membership where you feel obliged to go to the same place every weekend just to get your money’s worth. Plus with access to all the fitness facilities and tennis courts you don’t need a separate gym membership. Prices start around 500 per month depending whether you sign up on a monthly or annual basis. Based on that even if you were to use it just once a week it will have paid for itself and the best part is, it’s completely unlimited. You could go to a different beach club or 5 star hotel every day of the week. It offers variety which I love and all the discounts on top are a major bonus.

Here are some of the highlights for me:

The Beach Clubs: with access to independent beach clubs like Riva and Saadiyat Island along with some of the beautiful 5 star resorts like The Waldorf on the Palm, Dubai Polo Club, St Regis Abu Dhabi, and The Palace Downtown there is a pool for everyone depending on your mood and the vibe you’re after. One of our faves and regular haunts is the Westin Mina Seyahi with its sprawling grounds, winding pool, swim up bars and beautiful stretch of beach. It’s got some great restaurants and majorly ‘grammable spots.

Health and Fitness: I live on The Palm so love The Fairmont, The Waldorf and The Sofitel gyms. They are all super easy to get too, offer valet parking and have all the equipment you would ever need to work on that beach bod. And there’s something just so fancy-pants about using a hotel gym isn’t there?!  I often get asked if Privilee membership gets you free access to classes which sadly it doesn’t but it does give you discount off some of them. Some of the resorts like Fairmont on The Palm give you 20% off PT classes as does The Sofitel along with 20% off XFIT – which I still have yet to try but heard good reviews.

The Spa’s: I actually haven’t made full use of the spa discounts but have visited So Spa at the Sofitel on a few occasions and absolutely love it! With a private outdoor pool and terrace, hydro pool, rain forest shower and gorge treatment rooms it’s definitely one to add to your list and you get 20% off treatments with your Privilee card.

Bars and Restaurants: I was so surprised to find out how many bars and restaurants offer discount with Privilee, over 100 in fact! I just presumed that it would only be things like the pool bars that would offer it but a lot of the hotels high-end restaurants are also included. For instance in The Palace both Thiptara and Asado are included and offer 20% off food and drink. You can get 25% off the newly opened Axe House in JLT. Then you have venues like the stunning Le Cirque and Café Belge in the Ritz Carlton DIFC offering 25% discount. The best I’ve come across in terms of discount around the pool/beach has to be The Sheraton Jumeirah with a whopping 50% off! That pretty much brings a beer down to London prices! The resort itself isn’t one of my favourites but with prices like that and a swim-up bar what’s not to love?!

My only advise to those looking to join Privilee would be to get to some of the more popular venues early as they can get pretty busy during peak season. Occasionally some resorts when at full capacity may limit the number of Privilee members they allow access but with so many other partners to choose from this has genuinely never been an issue for me and Privilee are amazing at letting you know ahead of time if a hotel is fully booked.

If you are an avid sun lover like me then Privilee is totally worth every penny.
