What do you do on a beautiful winters Saturday in Dubai? Hit up The Croft’s new BBQ Saturdays and soak up the weather on their stunning outdoor terrace overlooking the Marina while munching your way through all the meat and listening to awesome live music. Just perfect!
We were invited along to try their new weekend promotion and I cannot recommend it enough as a result. We were greeted by the friendly staff upon our arrival and taken to our table out on the terrace. The views of the marina are fab, although sadly one side of it does overlook the new building under construction which is a bit of shame but pretty standard in Dubai. The menu is a la carte, with a selection of salads, grills and desserts all priced individually. The best part is they also offer an all-day happy hour with a large selection of spirits, wines, beers and cocktails. Given the holiday vibes we were feeling whilst sat in the sun we decided to start our lunch with an Aperol Spritz, which went down an absolute treat!
Our amazingly friendly and knowledgeable server, Jane, recommended that we try some of the salads first before moving onto the main event. We opted for the Smoked Chicken Caesar and the Triple Beets and Grilled Butternut. Both were really good, the perfect size for a starter and well presented. The anchovies on the Caesar were serious drools! Sorry, I have a lot of love for anchovies. We didn’t have the Tuna and Artichoke salad as the husband isn’t keen on tuna but the table next to us ordered this and it looked really good, so I’d also advise giving that a whirl. Our salads were delivered up with a portion of freshly baked garlic bread served with cheese, tomato salsa and caramelised onion chutney on the side. It was so good but given that I was trying to avoid the carbs so very hard to resist.
For main course you can choose from a number of grill options including burgers, steak, tiger prawns etc. or if you are feeling particularly indecisive and piggy you could select one of the platters. There were the options of the “Butchers platter” (all the meat), the “Coastal Catch” (explanation probably not necessary) or the aptly named “The Feast” which contained the best from both the meat and seafood options. Giving we’d skipped brekkie and were keen to try a bit of everything we went for The Feast and were super glad we did. This came out beautifully presented with mixed sides of mash potato (although I probably would have preferred chips if on the carb-train), creamy spinach and grilled veg along with a selection of sauces. I’m not lying when I say it was pretty massive. My husband was a little intimidated, I was just excited!!
At 380 AED I think it was really well priced for what it included; Tiger prawns, a swordfish and salmon fillet, beef kebabs, lamb chops and the smoked chicken and cheese sausage. Everything was fresh, clearly of very high quality (which The Croft prides itself on) and well cooked. My only comment is that while I enjoyed the chicken sausage I would have probably preferred a beef or pork variety.
We couldn’t possibly finish up our cheat day without checking out a couple of the desserts and on the chef’s recommendation tried the Pastry Baked Apples. Served with raisins, toasted walnuts and cinnamon ice cream it seriously hit the spot. It was super sweet however so be warned! We also opted for The Croft Cheesecake which was probably the only dish I didn’t love. They’d gone for a deconstructed-type dish which whilst looked pretty just didn’t work for me. I really missed the proper thick, crumbly crust at the bottom of an actual cake. It was still tasty just not what I was expecting/hoping for.
Apart from that everything else was perfect. The live music added to the whole atmosphere, the drinks were fab and the service really spot on. I know we were invited so it can sometimes be argued that you get special treatment but watching the servers at work I genuinely think they were that helpful and friendly with all the diners.
I can definitely see myself returning and think it’s a great spot for a chilled day with friends and even visitors.
