I was recently invited by the awesome team at Media One to visit for a little staycation and how could I say no given all the funky new goings on at this hotel?!
Arriving on a Thursday afternoon we were greeted by the amazingly friendly staff in the ultra-cool lobby who made our check in swift and easy and showed us up to our HIP Queen room. With awesome views over Media City and towards the Marina, glass walls surrounding the bathroom and quirky little touches we knew this was going to be a fun weekend!
We began our stay at the revamped CafeM on the ground floor for their Cheese and Wine night, which they have every Thursday. Now, if you know me at all you will know that I am a huge fan of a little bit of fromage accompanied by a nice Merlot or Cab Sav, so this had me very giddy. I’ve walked past CafeM previously and never thought of it as much of a venue but after its facelift I would definitely return. It was dimly lit, with a lovely bar and nice tables and booths dotted around. We were shown to our table and to my delight an awaiting bread basket (you know I love the carbs!) with none other than a cheese fondue bubbling away. Can you imagine my actual excitement? At the bar there was a great selection of wines laid out to help yourself to, with no less than 5 reds to choose from. The cheese tables (yes that’s right, tables) were vast, with lots of options including a salad bar and a voluminous amount of delicious, freshly baked bread. Needless to say we certainly got our fill and left feeling very satisfied. The place was buzzing and had a great atmosphere. For 199 AED this is an absolute steal! I’ve already been telling all the girls about it and will be back very soon!
In order to digest all that food we popped up to Dek on 8 for a couple of drinks. If you haven’t been before this is an open air bar positioned next to the beautifully lit swimming pool, surrounded by palm trees. It’s decked out with lovely white high tables and chairs with cabanas located around the outside. It was a little bit warm (read, rather sweaty!) given it was August but is the perfect spot for sundowners in the cooler months.
After a dreamy sleep in our comfy bed the next thing to concern ourselves with was what to order for breakfast. Talk about first world problems! The room service at Media One comes from the new bar and restaurant Qwerty which I’d heard great things about. I became doubly excited when I looked at the menu… You may have noticed from my Instagram that I’m rather a fan of avocado therefore I couldn’t resist the avocado toast topped with banana and strawberries. The husband opted for an omelette and we threw in a pastry basket and couple of coffees and OJ’s for good measure. The service was quick and the food – DIVINE! I was super impressed with the avocado toast and would go back to Qwerty just for that!
Not wanting to overexert ourselves, we had an hours nap then spent the rest of the morning at the pool at Dek on 8. Here we mentally prepared ourselves for the Qwerty brunch which I’ve been dying to try since its recent launch. It was a chilled, fun affair with great food in a funky little spot. If you want to know more check out my last post.
After stuffing ourselves silly and indulging in several glasses of wine (hic!) we finished off our perfect weekend with a couple of cheeky ones upstairs as we watched the sun go down.
I have to say I was looking forward to this weekend a lot, but I enjoyed it even more than I thought I would. The hotel is no pretentious 5-star beach resort. It’s clearly marketing itself at the fun-loving, trendy crowd and with its new additions (including the recent opening of Mr Miyagi’s) it’s doing a great job of drawing them in. The location is perfect as its close to the marina and easy to get too. The staff could not do enough for us and we loved all the dining options and the comfy rooms.
Media One is definitely not your typical Dubai hotel but definitely one for a fun weekend!
